<p>An unexpected benefit of pullups for beginners is how well they can work your abs.</p>
<p>When I first set up my doorway pullup bar, I was anticipating more of an upper body workout.  I've been on the bar a few times, and was surprised to see that most of the impact that I am feeling is in my abdominal muscles.</p>
<p>Avoid kipping and keep good form, and you will find that doing pullups will be a great workout for your core, as well as your upper body and back.</p>
